Period 4

Story Revised

Once upon a time in area somewhere around Fiji a plane crashed on a seemingly deserted island (crossing the threshold, the plane being the ordinary world). Slowly different school supplies left the plane and took in their surroundings. After wandering around the island for quite some time the supplies found a toolbox on the ground. Various beams and supports were next to the toolbox. A few weeks later a beautiful school was on the previously abandoned island. The school supplies were waiting for class to start in their newly formed school when the ruler (allies and enemies) approached the eraser. The ruler taunted the smaller eraser. Eventually he challenged him to a fight. The eraser denied (refusal of the call) and the ruler smashed the smaller eraser. As the rest of the school supplies gathered around their friend a mysterious figure walked into the room. It was a kiwi (3D kiwi). This new mentor (allies and enemies) approached the ruler and said the eraser wanted a rematch two weeks from today. The ruler laughed and left the classroom. The panicked eraser bombarded the kiwi with questions about what he was thinking. The kiwi informed the scared eraser that he would train him. Over the next few days the eraser practiced different moves and conditioning exercises. The erasers hard work paid off as he broke a board the day before the big fight. (conflict). The very next day the ruler entered the classroom, as confident as ever. The eraser and the ruler began the fight with the ruler trying the same move that defeated the eraser before. The eraser spun and avoided the move. In the process the eraser spun and pinned the ruler. The eraser prepared to punch the ruler that had caused him so much pain. After careful evaluation the eraser decided that he would be as bad as the ruler if he went through with the attack. He released the ruler and offered him his hand. The ruler looked up with a puzzled expression at the eraser. The eraser said “friends??” Gradually the ruler took the erasers hand and agreed. Suddenly the school supplies began to hear a rumbling sound in the distance and realized that it was the large volcano getting ready to erupt. They all rushed outside trying to figure out what they were going to do when 3D kiwi said follow me. The Kiwi led the group to a small boat that he had stashed away. The happy and anxious school supplies leaped into the boat as they realized that they were going home. As the eraser hopped in the boat he looked back and realized that their new friend was not in the boat. The eraser looked back with a puzzled expression and said “Aren’t you coming???”. The kiwi looked into the eyes of his young pupil and said “No this is my home and I can’t leave now!”. The sad eraser looked back realizing that there was nothing that he could do change the kiwi’s mind. The boat went away as the group looked back to see kiwi standing by his home, a true hero. Nobody ever knew what happened to 3D kiwi.

Hero’s Journey Stage one and two

Stage 1: Definition of stage 1: Taking the character out of the ordinary world or environment that was portrayed in the beginning  and putting him or her into a new world or environment

Examples of stage 1: In the first Dune book the main character Paul Atriedies was taken away from his home when his father decided to move them. This is an example of stage 1 because he was comfortable in his old environment and then he was taken away to a new land with new people. He has to create a new identity for himself and his family.

Stage 2: Definition of stage 2: Stage 2 is the point in the story where the main character realizes what he needs to do.

Example 1: In the first Mysterious Benedict society book the main character realizes what he needs to do when Mr. Benedict tells him about Mr. Curtis’s plan and that the only way that they can get information is if the students go to the school. This is the point where Reynard realizes what we need to do.

1. Refusal of the call is the point in the story where the main character shows weaknesses and refuses to believe that he or she is capable of whatever is being asked of him or her.

2. The hero would refuse the call because he is scared and it is human nature. This helps viewers and readers relate to the character.e

3.  In the Pendragon series Bobby does not believe that he is capable of saving the planets when he realizes what he is up against.

In the Odyssey Odyseus did not believe that he could or wanted to accept the challenge that was placed before him.

Stage 4:

1. Stage four is the point in the story where the mentor comes along and helps give the main  character the confidence that is needed to face the challenge that he or she has already refused.

2. The main character needs a mentor because before the mentor he or she is weak and vulnerable but the mentor gives them the skills and the confidence that they need.

3. The mentor is not always on the characters side because sometimes the conflict gives the character the knowledge that is needed to to face his or her fears and to step up.

4. In Harry Potter Dumbledore and Snape are Harry’s mentors. Dumbledore helps Harry believe in himself and to give him the knowledge that he needs to face Voldemort. Snape is a mentor because he teaches Harry the things that he needs to know through his blunt attitude.

Texting and Driving

If I were a congressman or woman I would feel like a reasonable law to stop texting and driving would be to fine anyone that is reported to be texting and driving. Cameras at stop signs and other law abiding citizens would have to be responsible for turning people in. I believe that this law is reasonable because I doubt that anyone would want to pay a large fine for a single text message or conversation. The only way that this law would work would be if people would actually make a conscience effort to report people.

Texting and driving and drinking and driving are both similar and different in many ways. On one hand texting and driving might be a little bit safer than driving under the influence because you may be coherent enough to hear a potential problem such as an oncoming car and fix it. On the other hand in both scenarios your focus is diverted from the road and either way you are at risk to get in an accident and quite possibly die.

If I were designing a plan to reduce texting and driving I would make it simple. The first thing that I would do is enforce the law mentioned in paragraph one. I really believe that although it would not stop texting and driving entirely that it would reduce it. I would also create campaigns similar to the one that AT&T has now. Lastly I would target all of the schools and have police officers or other groups go to the schools and try to make students aware of the dangers and the possibilities by using real life stories. Hopefully this plan or one similar to it will help reduce texting and driving.

The Hero’s Journey stage 11- The Resurrection

1. When the hero experiences  the resurrection it means that he or she is shedding the  old  character, the more naive one, and embracing the new one.

2. The character is considered the plot of the story because the character is changing like a normal plot. The character is reborn.

3. In the Lost Years of Merlin Emrys was very self absorbed but when Rhia was captured he lost that personality and is now a selfless person. In the Alex Rider books, Alex realizes that he can’t have his normal life and must become the spy that he was meant to be.
